Basanta Kumari Samanta is a multi-talented artist, gifted not only in painting, but in several other art forms as well. She is a master of realistic painting on oil, water, acrylic and wash, and has honed her skills to perfection over the years. Additionally, she is proficient in Tempera painting, Textile design, Panel design, Decorative design, Modeling, Lather work, Batik design, and Pen & Dot painting, making her a versatile and dynamic artist.

Basanta is not just a painter, but also a writer. Many of her works aim to highlight social culture and the current scenario, and she has published hundreds of poems in various magazines, newspapers, news channels, web portals, and All India Radio. She has also published a book titled "Bidipta Basanta." Her creative output is not just limited to the visual arts, but extends to the written word as well, making her a well-rounded artist who can express herself through a variety of mediums.

The artist has participated in numerous state-level artist camps, including those organized by S.C.E.R.T., the Odisha Lalita Kala Academy, and the Ganjam District Art Teachers' Association. She has also participated in a woman painters camp organized by the Eastern Zone Cultural Centre in Calcutta. The artist has consistently been a part of the art community and has made significant contributions to the promotion of art and culture in the region.

Basanta Kumari Samanta is a well-educated artist, holding a Diploma in Fine Arts with a focus on Oil Painting from the Government School of Art and Crafts in Khallikote, Ganjam. This educational background has provided her with a solid foundation in the techniques and skills required to create stunning works of art.

Basanta Kumari Samanta started her career as an art teacher in 1967 at a government girls' high school. Throughout her career, she worked at various schools including Chikiti girls’ high school, Banapur girls’ high school, Aska girls’ high school, Purusotampur boys’ high school, Khallikote Mardharaj high school, and Parlakhemundi boys’ high school. In 2001, she retired from her teaching career at D.I.E.T.

The artist has dedicated much of her life to giving back to the community through education and social activism. During her time as a teacher, she taught countless students and even ran a free art school on Sundays. She also serves as an advisor for several organizations, including "Purna Kala Khetra Khallikote" and actively worked as a member in "Ananya Utkal Organization", “charitable trust of APJ Abdul Kalam”, “Kavita Ghara association”, “organization for upliftment of mankind”, “South Odisha Sahitya Sansad”. With a strong passion for art and culture, the artist uses her platform to raise awareness and educate the youth about the important relationship between art and society.

The artist has participated in several exhibitions throughout her career, showcasing her works to a wider audience. Her exhibitions have been a testament to her skill and talent as an artist, attracting the attention of art lovers and critics alike. Her works have been displayed in prestigious galleries and cultural centers, making her a well-known name in the art community. Whether it is a solo show or a group exhibition, her works always leave a lasting impression on visitors.
