Basanta Kumari Samanta started her career as an art teacher in 1967 at a government girls' high school. Throughout her career, she worked at various schools including Chikiti girls’ high school, Banapur girls’ high school, Aska girls’ high school, Purusotampur boys’ high school, Khallikote Mardharaj high school, and Parlakhemundi boys’ high school. In 2001, she retired from her teaching career at D.I.E.T.

She also serves as an advisor for several organizations, including "Purna Kala Khetra Khallikote" and actively worked as a member in "Ananya Utkal Organization", “charitable trust of APJ Abdul Kalam”, “Kavita Ghara association”, “organization for upliftment of mankind”, “South Odisha Sahitya Sansad”.
