During the 1998 edition of Konark Mohautsav, held at Konark Natya Mandap, Basanta Kumari Samanta received the Silpi Gopal Kanungo Smarakee Samman — a memorial honour instituted in the name of the artist Gopal Kanungo — presented to her by Pranab Mukherjee in recognition of her twin contribution to Odisha's art and literature.
